About

Mathew is an archaeologist, writer and public speaker who is passionate about communicating archaeology to new audiences.

He works for University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) and has over 20 years of commercial archaeological experience, excavating a wide range of rural and urban archaeology across the Midlands from the prehistoric period through to the Industrial Revolution.

Mathew has spent much of his career digging up bits of Roman and medieval Leicester and, in 2012, he directed the successful archaeological excavation searching for the lost grave of King Richard III. Currently, he is the lead archaeologist for the Leicester Cathedral Revealed and Bosworth Links projects, both supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Mathew’s interests include urban archaeology, and Roman and medieval archaeology, and he is passionate about providing opportunities for everyone to take part in archaeological projects.
